AwareCity Member's Site

CSCI 456 Senior Project 2022 - 2023

We created a mobile application called “AwareCity”. The purpose of this application is to provide crucial information and services to the homeless people of New York. Our application comprises three distinct tabs, namely the Home, Map screen, and Charity. In the Home tab, you can find a dedicated Hotlines section, Frequently Asked Questions, and an About Us page. The Map screen displays a map of New York City, with markers indicating the locations of shelters and food resources. To make it easier for users to identify the type of assistance they need, each resource is color-coded. The Charity tab features a comprehensive list of organizations that passionately advocate for the betterment of the community, with a particular focus on those in need.

My responsibilities included designing the app's user interface layout, developing the map screen, and optimizing it for maximum performance. I used Google Maps to display markers for the various resource locations, incorporated a carousel feature for easier navigation, and included the user's location. Furthermore, I designed the data structure that efficiently managed and presented the information on the different resources available to the app's users.
